Life in the Fast Lane

A professional man, he does everything well. When he fell in love with the stunning brunette, he waited until her divorce was final to ask her out.

When he determined that she might marry him, he went to ask her mother for her hand. Her mother was astonished. "Why Cecelia's a country girl," she exclaimed. "She doesn't know anything about fast living in town, going to the country club, things like that."

He laughed and promised her that Cecelia would have a good life, but it wouldn't be as glamourous as she envisioned.

Years passed and he was the son-in-law he'd determined to be, a good husband and father. One of the children had a chronic illness and they spent long hours at the hospital.

One night, after they'd sat in the Emergency Room waiting room until near daybreak, he turned to his mother in law. "So, Granny," he said, "what do you think of life in the fast lane, now?"
