He was never a leading man, but he was known in the business. He'd played with famous cowboy stars whose names we recognized, and with beautiful women. We found the movies in which he'd had parts. His screen name was not his real name. We called him by his screen name, which pleased him.
He raged against the illness that had taken away his looks. His skin was jaundiced and hung loosely on his bones.
Formerly a muscular well built man he was now gaunt. His hair had mostly fallen out and he'd even lost height. Never as tall as he'd wanted to be, nevertheless he'd been an awesome presence in Cowboy Boots and Levis. Now his britches hung loose and there were no muscles.
It was not clear what had happened to the beautiful woman he'd married in Hollywood. His sons rallied to take care of him.
They turned the mirror to the wall.
